Described as “a wonderfully honest and communicative performer,” embodying “dramatic intensity and vocal ease,” Ms. Carter appears this season as Mother in Hansel & Gretel with Grand River Opera, and in operatic excerpts with K-W Community Orchestra on their spring 2025 Opernball concert.
She has appeared locally as Suor Angelica, Miss Jessel (The Turn of the Screw), and Silvia (Zanetto) with Grand River Opera. Further afield, she has performed with the Wagner in Vermont Festival, Dramatic Voices Berlin, Powerhouse Opera, Opera by Request, Opera Susquehanna, and the Colours of Music Festival.
Roles include Valkyries & Rheinmaidens in Wagner’s Ring Cycle; Chrysothemis, 4th & 5th Maid (Elektra); Ariadne auf Naxos; Donna Anna (Don Giovanni); 1.Dame, Pamina (Die Zauberflöte); and Nedda (Pagliacci). She lives in Kitchener, founded GRO, teaches singing at Resound Voice Studio, and is mom to Nat and Sam.
About Charmaine Fopoussi
Charmaine Fopoussi is in demand as a vocal coach, accompanist, and chamber musician. She holds a MMus in Collaborative Piano from Western University where she had the privilege of studying with Dr. John Hess as well as a BMus from Wilfrid Laurier University where she studied with Boyd McDonald, a life-long mentor. She has performed with numerous artists and organizations, including Guy Few, Penderecki String Quartet, Bethany Horst, Menno Singers, Guelph Youth Singers, Stratford Concert Choir, UWOpera, McGill Opera, NUMUS, INNERchamber, as well as being a vocal coach at Western University for the past 14 years. Recent engagements include the Eckhardt-Grammatté National Music Competition with Katy Clark (2nd place), a Nadia Boulanger Song Recital, and Grand River Opera’s Turn of the Screw by Britten. She is currently a busy vocal coach in her hometown of Stratford.
