While going through old photos on my phone yesterday, I came across a few from last year that showed people in t-shirts—in February! That feels like a far cry from this winter. Of course, we know that spring always comes, but weeks like this—after last weekend’s storm, with another 20 cm of snow expected tonight and yet another storm system coming Saturday—makes winter feel never-ending. I have to admit, I’m really hoping March brings that early spring the groundhog supposedly promised!
As winter marches on, so does the church calendar. The season of Lent is only a few weeks away, with the first Sunday of Lent falling on March 9. For the past two years, we’ve marked the beginning of this season with a Pancake Lunch on the Sunday before Lent. Traditionally, Shrove Tuesday was a time for Christians to use up eggs and fats before embarking on a Lenten fast—pancakes being the perfect way to do that! However, this year, our Annual General Meeting falls on that Sunday, so we had to get creative.
Instead, we’re moving the Pancake Meal to actual Shrove Tuesday, March 4. Join us at 5:30 p.m. in Iona Hall for a Pancake Dinner! It is just $2 per person, with all proceeds supporting Ray of Hope and our Coldest Night of the Year team. If you’re able, come out, bring a friend or your grandkids, and enjoy good food and fellowship.
We ask that you register in advance—click the button below to sign up!
In the meantime, as the snow keeps piling up, let’s hold onto the promise that spring will come. And until then, at least we have warm pancakes and good company to look forward to!
Warm regards,
