St. Andrew’s Musings

Rev. Wendy Paterson

February greetings and best wishes,

In my January Musings, I asked you to send me a poem, song, paragraph, etc. about God's love or your love for God. I told you I would send them out in my Musings for February. Many thanks to the people who contributed.

The first piece is actually a song that Dave Mitchell wrote many years ago when he was teaching Sunday School. Dave (piano) and Matt Dudziak (saxophone) played the melody during worship on Aug.11, 2024. Here are the words:

There's a Power Above Us

Look up at the stars on a clear moonlit night.
What amazing creation, a spectacular sight!
All the suns, moons and planets put in place by God's hand.
There's a power above us...we all understand.

Look up at a bird as it wings in mid-flight.
What amazing creation, a spectacular sight!
All the creatures around us put in place by God's hand.
There's a power above us... we all understand.

Look up, see a parent hold an infant so tight.
What amazing creation, a spectacular sight!
Each new life is a blessing put in place by God's hand.
There's a power above us...we all understand.

Look up and say thanks before you sleep every night,
For amazing creation, each spectacular sight!
All the world and its beauty, put in place by God's hand.
There's a power above us... we all understand.

The next one is by Penny Cressman, written this January. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

God's Love

God's 'love' is not a word or phrase
Not a gesture nor a hymn of praise.

It does not need a bended knee
Nor open arms nor eyes that see.

Quite simply, it is breath alone
A whisper deep inside the bone.

A spirit anchored from within,
A gift of life, a gift from Him.

It brings me strength to move without
To care, to share, to cry, to shout.

To be the best that I can be
And with its help, to be just me.

Mary Weber submitted this next piece saying the author is unknown but she has had it for many years. It has been comforting to her “to know just how much God, our Heavenly Father, loves us.” She hopes someone else will find it comforting also.

The will of God will never take you,
where the grace of God cannot keep you,
where the arms of God cannot support you,
where the riches of God cannot supply your needs,
where the power of God cannot endow you.

The will of God will never take you,
where the comfort of God cannot dry your tears,
where the Word of God cannot feed you,
where the miracles of God cannot be done for you,
where the omnipresence of God cannot find you.

Lastly, Lynda Kay, submitted her thoughts in prose form, responding to the request for thoughts about God's love. Please consider what she has written.

“Today's chaotic world appears on the brink of destruction and true Christians need to separate from current issues to focus on kindness, caring and love for others. Sharing God's love with the help of the Holy Spirit is a Christian's solace and comfort. We are called to be like Jesus. A mandate of love towards others will be the catalyst to hopefully making a small difference.”

Thanks again to those who contributed. May we all share God's wonderful love in thoughts, words, and action!
