Barb and I are driving back from Florida right now bringing her mom home after her stay on the Florida coast for the last few months. We had a few nice days soaking up the sun although I understand there was more sun and warmth here in Kitchener than there was in Florida. ๐ Regardless, it was a wonderful break. I will be back in the office on Wednesday and I thank the congregation for our holiday
One of the questions I was asked when I preached for the call almost two years ago, was whether or not I believed in resurrection. I do but even beyond that, I think we are called to lean into resurrection, to live it out in all we do. Following Jesus is not primarily assent to a statement of beliefs. It is a way of living and a way of being in the world.
As a church, to live out resurrection is to know that despite all the challenges and struggles in life, we are not done - or better still, God is not done with us yet. To lean into resurrection is to not let despondency or helplessness overpower us by thinking there is nothing we can do to change what is happening in the world. To engage in resurrection is to affirm beyond a shadow of a doubt that what we do, as small as it may be, changes the world around us. Love, little acts of love, make a huge difference in society. We may not hear about their impact as much because they are not deemed newsworthy but love has more power to change our lives than anything else.
I look forward to the Easter season ahead. I hope and pray it will be a deep blessing for the congregation and surrounding community alike
Please remember to sign up for the Agnes Stock weekend โDying to Knowโ on April 28-30
And join us for the community clean-up day this Saturday.
Take good care,
Marty
